From Kicking & Screaming to Acceptance to Success with Dr. Justin Goldston

And we’re talking about stretch goals, Tony Robbins says that people vastly, vastly overestimate what they can do in like a year and then vastly underestimate what you can do in five to 10 years. And I think that’s really, really true. When you think about the long arc that we have. I mean, life is short, but there’s still plenty of years there. You should have some some planning time, not just what you want to do this quarter, next quarter and this year, but what do you want where you want to be in five years and 10 years and 20 years and 30 years. And if you’re making those plans, that’s that’s how you can be intentional about where you end up. Right. We don’t just walk out the door, start driving the car and end up at our destination. We punch it in the GPS. Right. But you’ve got to kind of do that with life.
Dr. Justin Goldston [00:41:05]
Yeah. And so, you know, when I look back on it and somebody somebody actually asked me that three weeks ago, they said, Justin, what’s your end game? Yeah, I said, I want to be the biggest name in supply-chain management, they said what I said, think about it, I said, you may not you may not reach that. I say, but if you have that mindset, you’re going to be pretty doggone big, you’ll be pretty doggone big. And you’re going and you’re going to and you’re going to make a huge impact on the world in the process. You know, so that’s that’s why I have that stretch goal. That’s why I have that mindset.
Dr. Russell Strickland [00:41:38]
I think it’s important we use that for that for a stretch goal with our dissertation students as well. We look at let’s let’s get this thing finished in 12 months and that’s difficult. That’s not not everybody does it. But by setting that stretch goal, those who don’t, who fall short, who don’t finish in that period of time, they still get really, really close. They’ve gotten a lot further down the road than they would have. And we get other folks that knock it out of the park. Eight months, nine months done. So, yeah, setting those goals and then trying to meet and exceed your goals is important as well.
