POTUS 5 and Dissertations
April 28th marks the birthday of the 5th President of the United States. Here’re some words of wisdom from James Monroe that you can apply to your dissertation…
James Monroe, one of the “Founding Fathers” of our country, shouldered great responsibility from a young age. After the loss of both of his parents at age 16, Monroe had to leave school to help support his younger siblings. Even, so, he was a proponent of the power of education…
Let us by wise and constitutional measures promote intelligence among the people as the best means of preserving our liberties.
—James Monroe
Sounds like he wants you to finish that dissertation.
Monroe made it through some tough times. How do any of us make it through difficult times and times of great responsibility? Here’s one quote from Monroe that is a bit funny but also sheds some light on one way to help yourself through:
A little flattery will support a man through great fatigue.
—James Monroe
Flattery! So…find someone to say nice things to you? Sure!
Maybe this is the 18th century way of reminding you to surround yourself with positivity.
Think about that. Are the people in your life building you up as you work to complete your dissertation? I hope so. If they aren’t, maybe you need to ask for support directly.
What about YOU? Are you building yourself up or tearing yourself down?
If Monroe saw the value of a little flattery, then you could benefit from a little flattery to make it through this milestone in your life. You’ve come this far! You deserve this!
