Pi and Dissertations

March 14th is π Day. So, today, it’s apropos to remember that if you’re irrational about your dissertation, it’ll drag on and on and on…

Here are a few of my favorite π jokes:

Two halves make a whole. Two πs make a hole!

What are 3.14% of all sailors?
– Pi-rates!

Why do Mr. Pi and Mrs. Pi always argue?
– She says he goes on and on, and he says that she’s irrational!

π Day can be fun for the nerds among us. But, it’s also a good opportunity for you too confront any irrationality you’re taking into your dissertation process.

Start off by examining your motivations.

Why are you pursuing your doctorate in the first place?

How do the motivation inform your approach to your dissertation.

Is that approach organized and logical?
