Women and Dissertations

March 8th is International Women’s Day. To celebrate, I want to share the special process I use to help women get their dissertations done…

What’s the secret strategy I use to help women to get their dissertation done? It’s a 3-pronged approach to fast track your study to graduation.

1. Focus on the finish. Your goal is to graduate. You’re developing a dissertation not because you want to do so but because it’s a requirement for graduation.

2. Work backwards. Most students begin with a topic and go from there. But, this is a haphazard, frustrating process. Instead, you should start with a feasible research plan and determine to how position it. The journey is always easier with you start with a destination in mind.

3. Establish a structure for your work. The dissertation process is notoriously devoid of organization, deadlines, and accountability. You must establish your own time frames and ensure that you stick to them.

Now, how is this is process different than the one we use for men? It’s not…and that’s the point. We treat women and men the same way, as it should be. Much of the world is moving in the right direction, but we’re not all there yet.

So, for International Women’s Day, celebrate by thanking the women in your life for all the contributions they make to your success. And while, you’re at it, be sure to return the favor.
