Milestones and Dissertations

This is my 100th “and Dissertations” blog post in the past 100 days. Milestones are important in that they measure progress but also prompt reflection. Let’s talk about milestones and dissertations…

I started Dissertation Done nearly five years ago. In that time I’ve helped hundreds of students get their dissertatons done with more confidence, less stress, less effort, and in less time.

A fundamental principle behind all of our work at Dissertation Done is that we follow the canons of academic ethics. I’ve told more than one student that we do not write dissertations, only to have them huff off in search of someone who would.

Even so, many of our students consider us to be their “secret weapon” and, as such, don’t refer their friends and colleagues our way. They know that there’s nothing “wrong” with us providing support, but they still to be a bit embarrassed to let others know about having a coach. I’d rather come off smart for enlisting help than herioc for doing everything myself, but to each his own.

All of that’s simply to say that we’ve flown well beneath the radar all these years. Our students love us, but no one else knows we exist.

So, earlier this year, I decided to change that. I decided that my first small step would be to publish a daily blog, a quirky thought relating something of note with respect to that day to something of note with respect to the dissertation process.

I thought it important that you get a tap on the shoulder each day, reminding you about your dissertation. A subtle nag that maybe you should bring your dissertation to the front burner every once in a while. A different philosophy and strategy to apply to your dissertation. And, for God’s sake, not the same old thing you’d hear from your professors or, hell, anyone else!

I hope that I’ve done that for some of you over the past 100 days.

Sometimes it’s been silly.

Other timessomber.

I’ve talked about science and math.

Musicmoviesand TV.

But through it all there’s been a steady metronome, “and Dissertations.” As if everything is somehow related to your dissertation, because right now, for you, it is!

So, that’s my reflection on this journey so far.

What milestones can you reflection upon in your dissertation journey?

What milestone are you currently working toward?

Have you even listed the milestones you must pass to get to graduation?

If you want some extra support and guidance as you try to answer these questions and more, I may be able to help. If you’d like to find out whether you qualify for the support we offer throughout the dissertation process, then…
