POTUS 23 and Dissertations
August 20th marks the birthday of the 23rd President of the United States. Here’s some words of wisdom from Benjamin Harrison that you can apply to your dissertation…
Great lives never go out; they go on.
— Benjamin Harrison
All doctoral students I talk with strive for lives of greatness.
Some want to give back to the next generation by teaching.
Others want to serve by leading. Some in the public sector; others in the private sector.
Some students want to serve their communities through counseling.
But, all of them want to make an impact. They want to leave the world a better place than they found it.
Benjamin Harrison was a one-term President. But in that single term, he expanded the union by six states, the navy by seven-fold, and public lands by more than 13 million acres. Talk about making an impact!
What impact do you want to make on the world? Or maybe just in your small world of the world?
How do you plan to get there?
It’s important to have a vision for where you want to go. It is this vision that keeps your feet moving when things get tough.
But, it’s also important to have a plan for how to reach your goal. It is the certainty of a detailed plan that gives you the confidence to know that each footfall will find solid footing. To move boldly rather than cautiously.
